Best honeymoon destinations for every season

Looking for unique honeymoon destinations? Check out these stunning ideas for a romantic getaway, perfect for every season.

The wedding season is on, you have finally chosen a perfect dress and suit, guests are invited, and everyone is praying for a good weather. The question remains: where to go for a honeymoon? There is always the rainy season somewhere, in the other places you’ll come across crowds of tourists… The key to a perfect honeymoon is really simple. Just ask yourself: what do you like to do on regular vacation? We have come up with a short guide to the best honeymoon destinations across the world, taking into account different seasons and how do you like spending your holidays.

HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS FOR WINTER

LUXURY

The Maldives has been recognized as one of the best honeymoon destinations for many years. Crystal clear water, white sand beaches, coral reefs, luxury hotels with water villas and even underwater restaurants… You have thousands of coral islands in 26 atolls to choose from. Important note – you will find true “luxury” only on so-called “resort islands”. The Maldives is a Muslim country. If you’re staying on “local islands”, you will definitely know the culture of the country better, but you can forget about fancy drinks with alcohol or gram-worthy pics in the bikini (you can’t sunbathe on the beach, only in restricted areas).

When to go to the Maldives? The best time is from December to March when it doesn’t rain that much and the temperatures are pleasant, the other months are rather humid and rainy.

ACTIVE

Bungee jumping in Queenstown, rafting in Waitomo Caves, Milford Sound cruise, zorbing in Rotorua, visiting Hobbits, the awe-inspiring Catlins… If you don’t like being bored, a New Zealand roadtrip is something for you. Every day you will see and experience completely new things – check out our perfect New Zealand itinerary or how to plan to plan your NZ budget here.

Where to go to New Zealand? When it’s winter in Europe and in the US, New Zealand enjoys beautiful sunny summer – the main tourist season is from December to March, but definitely, February and March are less “crowded”.

CITY BREAK

I sincerely admit that I have been dreaming about the New York in winter for a long time. Probably thanks to all these romantic comedies! The sky-high Christmas tree in front of the Rockefeller Center, an ice skating rink in the Central Park, thousands of lights and festive decorations illuminating streets… Not to mention the winter sale on the 5th Avenue 🙂

When to go to New York? If you’re planning some shopping during winter sales, it is best to go just after the Xmas holidays and stay until the New Year’s Eve. You don’t wanna miss the famous Times Square Ball announcing the New Year!

RELAX

What about a trip to Morocco? I was amazed by traditional Moroccan riads, ie. houses with an inner courtyard, usually with a swimming pool, perfect to take a dip. Many of these are now hotels, offering a wide range of SPA treatments and the famous Moroccan hammam bath. Be sure to get lost at the Arab bazaar named souk and go to the Sahara desert to spend the night under the stars.

When to go to Morocco? Although Morocco is waiting for tourists all year round, winter is a good time – not so hot, with fewer tourists and lower prices.

HONEYMOON DESTINATIONS FOR SPRING

LUXURY

Islands that usually fight with the Maldives to be no 1 among honeymoon destinations – Seychelles. Picture perfect beaches with palm trees, turquoise water, cute turtles, spectacular reef and some of the best and most luxurious hotels in the world. What a dream!

When to go to Seychelles? The high season lasts from April until October – it’s a bit cooler than the other months, with less rainfall.

ACTIVE

Greece is always a good idea when it comes to honeymoon destinations. If you are bored with lying on the beach, try island hoping to spend a few days on different islands. Of course, the best option is when you rent a boat, but even if you have no clue how to sail – you can still do it. In the spring, many ferries start operating and it is easy to “jump” between the islands. We especially hoping the Cyclades, starting eg. from Crete – and don’t miss the bucketlist-worthy attractions of Mykonos and Santorini! This is exactly how our honeymoon looked like.

When to go to Greece? Actually, the best time is from April to October, but we recommend the period from April to the first week of June. The weather is great, but there are no crowds of tourists, and ferries between the islands are still frequent.

CITY BREAK

Have you watched the movie “The Fault in Our Stars”? It made me realize how romantic Amsterdam is. Avoid popular attractions and stay in the Jordan district. A cruise through the canals at sunset is an unforgettable experience. Spring is the perfect time to visit the city, as hundreds of tulips bloom at every corner – you should also visit the Keukenhof garden.

When to go to Amsterdam? It is a very popular tourist city, so it is best to skip all weekends and public holidays. You can travel all over the year, but the tulips bloom only in spring – from March till May.

RELAX

Lovers of SPA treatments, yoga, natural retreats and total relaxation must visit this place – Bali. If you are looking for some tranquility, we recommend Ubud, not located by the beach, but it is full of everything you need for a total chill out. Stop at one of the hotels in the rice fields, eg. Kajane Yangloni in Ubud, go for yoga classes at sunrise, relax during Balinese massage… Bali has everything you need to pamper your senses.

When to go to Bali? The high season lasts from April to November, but we were in Bali in March and we can recommend this time – there are not so many tourists, it is much easier to book something nice much cheaper. We only had 20 minutes of rain during our one week stay.

HOLIDAY DESTINATIONS FOR SUMMER

LUXURY

If you dream of the ultimate exotic vacation, Fiji will meet all your requirements. One of the best snorkeling spots in the world and unbelievably friendly people… In fact, you’ll only worry about which Fiji island to choose 🙂 If you dream of staying on a private island with maximum 18 other guests, take a look at the Navini Island Resort.

When to go to Fiji? June and July are the best!

Do you love wildlife? Honeymoon in South Africa is something for you. Go on safari to Kruger National Park – meeting in wild the “Big Five”, the most dangerous African animals to hunt (lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant, and rhino) is an unforgettable experience. You should also consider visiting Botswana, especially Chobe National Park – where Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton used to spend their romantic holidays.

When to go to South Africa? If you want to avoid the high temperatures and crowds, the period from May to September (winter in SA) will be perfect.

CITY BREAK

What about a trip to Naples? Italy is one of the favorite honeymoon destinations. The city itself may not be the most beautiful one, but here you will try genuine Italian pizza and is a great start for exploring the Amalfi Coast (Ravello and Positano are so stunning!) or the magical island of Capri. Also, take a look at Sorrento, a bit less popular among tourist.

When to go to Naples? Unfortunately, Italy attracts tourists all year long, so even in January, you may experience crowds here. Try to go in June or September instead of July and August.

RELAX

Summer in the Alps? Why not? We are fans of small towns in Bavaria and Tyrol. They have a unique traditional charm, but still offering really fancy SPA retreats. You will find great hotels with breathtaking mountain views, where you can totally disconnect from the World. Stay in a little less popular tourist destinations like Grainau, located next to the highest peak of Germany – Zugspitze. We recommend you especially Hotel am Badersee, it has a big sauna with the glass ceiling, where you can admire the stars! In Austria, you can look for something next to Reutte – a perfect base for hiking.

When to go to the Alps? All year round! However, we especially like the summer, June and September are less popular months when the weather is still good.

HONEYMOON DESTINATIONS FOR FALL

LUXURY

Autumn is generally not a very convenient time to visit the Caribbean islands… Unless you decide to visit the one outside the hurricane belt, like Aruba. The island itself is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations for American newlyweds, which significantly raise prices. On the other hand, here you will find one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and of course the world famous… Flamingo Beach!

When to go to Aruba? The main season lasts from April to August. September is the perfect time to visit – the weather is good, but prices are falling significantly! From October to January it may rain a bit (short but intense).

Views from Wild Wild West in Monument Valley, giant trees in the Sequoia National Park, the awe-inspiring Yosemite, the Grand Canyon and the Pacific Coast Highway… Yes, the honeymoon on the west coast of the United States will give you many great experiences. Driving for long hours may be a bit tiring, so plan some less intense days “just for two”, eg. for wine tasting in Napa Valley.

When to go to the US West Coast? September and the beginning of October are the best times to hit the road. National parks in July and August are really crowded, and finding a place to stay near attractions is almost impossible. On the other hand, remember that some of the roads in the parks are closed in October.

CITY BREAK

Autumn is the perfect time to visit Dubai. Temperatures are nice to spend a day on the beach, Ramadan is over and clubs and outdoor restaurants are reopened after a hot summer. Find out more what to do in Dubai.

When to go to Dubai? From October to April the weather is perfect. Starting in May, it’s really unbearable, don’t believe anyone who tells you that July in Dubai is great. The only advantage is the very low prices, but will you really be able to sunbathe and see anything at all in 50 degrees? October and November are a good choice – still before New Year’s Eve peak, and temperatures are approx. 30 degrees.

RELAX

Thailand, like Bali, is famous for amazing SPA retreats, laid-back atmosphere, and perfect cuisine. Here you will find sensational resorts where you can completely relax and enjoy the green curry all the time. Many SPA centers have special offers to meet your needs: to introduce you to the healthy lifestyle, to relieve the stress or to get an emotional balance. Some even have their own psychological mentors! Check out, for example, the Kamalaya Resort on Koh Samui.

When to go to Thailand? Taking into account how difficult to predict is the weather is in Thailand, each season is both good and bad. September is a perfect time to visit Koh Samui, while in October and November you should consider staying in Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Krabi. Around Christmas and New Year’s Eve, Thailand gets really crowded.
