Where to stay in Mykonos? 10 best hotels

where to stay in Mykonos - best hotels in Mykonos

Last year was really hard for all of us, but to be honest there was one little thing that kept some spark of joy in my life. That one day I will be able to travel to Greece again… I kept browsing skyscanner.com in search of tickets for the indefinite future and all these fancy boho-style hotels and villas on booking.com, just to feel like I’m back in my favourite country… I know I’m not the only one looking forward to the big fat Greek vacay as my post on the best hotels in Santorini was hitting record views despite the pandemic. So I decided to help you a bit with finding out where to stay in Mykonos, the other dreamy island!

There is absolutely no better place for a post-pandemic detox than the island of party – Mykonos. Of course, before travelling to this amazing island, please check the current COVID travel restrictions and get your PLF. Once you are clear for departure, check below where to stay in Mykonos 🙂

WHERE TO STAY IN MYKONOS?

Mykonos Town is the island’s main city, full of winding streets, hip bars, and cozy shops. It’s a true paradise for every boho style lover <3 Here you will find also the greatest tourist attractions in Mykonos like the Windmills or the Little Venice. It’s the best option to stay if your time on the island is limited and you have to spend only 1 or 2 days. Everything is really close. The main drawback is the noise, as Mykonos parties do not end before sunset. In such a case, you may look for some options closer to the so-called New Port. We once stayed for 1 night in the Olia Hotel, which I may totally recommend for shorter and budget-friendly stays.

If you are looking for celebrities and some lavish lifestyle, look for the accommodation next to the most famous beaches – Psarou Beach or Platys Gialos. Here you will find the best hotels in Mykonos, loved by many rich and famous. Super Paradise Beach is a place for all the party animals. When I spent my Erasmus in Greece, that was the place where they knew how to party 😉 If you are looking for a more tranquil place, Kalo Livadi and the northern parts of the island (e.g. Mersini Bay) will be a perfect fit for you. It’s a bit far away from Mykonos Town, but the beaches are not that busy and in general, the vibe is more laidback. So, where to stay in Mykonos?

Tip: Mykonos is definitely the most expensive Greek island and the hotel prices may give you some headache 😉 As the island is extremely popular among all the celebrities and insta-famous, the rates are inflated significantly. Obviously, the high price do not always goes along with the high quality… If you wan to cut some costs, travel to Mykonos in low season (October-May) or try to look for the accommodation not by the beach. There is a good public KTEL buses network, so it’s quite easy to get around the island even if you live in the outskirts  🙂 There are also cabs available, however not many, so the waiting time may be pretty long.

THE BEST HOTELS IN MYKONOS – MY CRITERIA

When compiling this list, I took into account the hotel general aesthetic (my beloved boho vibes!), location (next to interesting places), service (as I stayed in many of them or at least had dinner), and… breathtaking sea view 😉 I tried to select hotels within different price ranges. However, as I repeated already a couple of times, Mykonos *IS* expensive. A takeaway frappe costs like 5 EUR while in every other place in Greece you will usually pay 2 EUR 🙂

THE BEST HOTELS IN MYKONOS – WHERE TO STAY IN MYKONOS?

Cavo Tagoo, Mykonos Town

Probably the most tagged hotel in Mykonos on Instagram. Amazing interiors in Cycladic style. Many rooms with private or shared pools. Breathtaking view over the bay where you may observe ferries arriving and departing from Mykonos. To be honest, it’s even hard to think about a better place to celebrate a special occasion like a wedding anniversary or honeymoon.

There are two drawbacks. Firstly – the price, of course. The rate for the very basic room in the low season starts from 500 EUR. Believe me or not, but for this price, you may rent an incredible villa for yourself only. Secondly – Instagrammers. Many people find it quite annoying, so I must warn you. On the other hand, you may have a unique opportunity to see “Instagram vs Reality” and how many sacrifices require a good insta pic 😉 There is a very good restaurant on site, however personally for me – not the best on the island.

Bill & Coo Suites and Lounge, Mykonos Town

Very tough competitor of Cavo Tagoo. Super luxurious! The whole hotel is divided in two parts: Suites & Lounge and Coast, which is adult only. It is located next to Mykonos Town and Megali Ammos beach. There is this amazing restaurant onsite, Gastronomy Project, just perfect for a romantic dinner. Breathtaking sunset views!

Myconian Utopia Relais & Chateaux, Elia

For me, this definitely the best hotel in Mykonos, which is as elegant as Cavo Tagoo, minus celebrities. Myconian Utopia is located next to the other hotels from this chain, which are also quite fabulous. We were lucky to stay in the Signature Retreat room. It had a nice terrace with a plunge pool and a spectacular sea view. Interiors in Cycladic style, a bit minimalistic, but still super stylish. Delicious breakfasts and amazing SPA, which included 4 swimming pools giving you different health benefits. The hotel is also located next to the most beautiful beach in Mykonos, Elia Beach. It’s a bit far from Mykonos town, however, there is a free hotel shuttle bus. If I go to Mykonos again, I will definitely stay here again.

Aeolos Resort, Mykonos Town

The hotel is located next to Mykonos Town, approx. 800 m from the beach. The whole complex is divided into two wings – Daylight and Sunset. The Sunset wing is located in a way that guests may enjoy the jaw-dropping sunset over the Aegean Sea. The price to quality ratio is really nice, especially for rooms in the Daylight part. Rooms are rather less designer than in Cavoo or Utopia, but still with this irresistible Cycladic vibe. Amazing drinks served by the pool! 🙂

Archipelagos Hotel, Kalo Livadi

Great boutique hotel, far away from the hustle & bustle of Mykonos Town. We were lucky to spend a whole week here a few years ago. There is a hotel shuttle bus, so commuting to Mykonos Town is not a problem. In return, the area is pretty tranquil and quiet. Uncrowded Kavo Livadi beach is located nearby. But the best thing about this hotel is its restaurant. Breakfasts are truly amazing, full of local products and by far the best ones we have ever tried in Greece. The dinners are one of the best on the island (try saganaki in filo pastry <3). The hotel is a part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World (same as Mr & Mrs White, where we stayed while in Paros).

Lyo Boutique Hotel Mykonos, Super Paradise

The hotel located next to Super Paradise Beach, so this is the place for someone who loves to party. Nearby Super Paradise Beach Club is pretty cool, however, it changed the target group since my student years. It used to be a typical beach bar for rather not wealthy students, now it became a place for more affluent guests. The hotel itself is really splendid! These amazing views of the Aegean Sea… and these rooms with boho vibe simply had me <3

SeaCode Villas, Platis Gialos

Since we spent our Naxos holidays in a spectacular holiday home Naxos Rock Villas, we started to look for this type of accommodation for our vacay. Villa gives you a lot of privacy, space, and freedom. If you are going with your family or friends, it usually turns out to be cheaper than a hotel. Additionally, it is usually not a problem to bring your pet with you. Sea Code Villa is the best example. If you go to Mykonos in a group of 4 or 6 people, you may rent this stunning house located 300m from the beach, for half of the price of the luxury hotel per person. Villa is brand new and well equipped with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. Not to mention these fabulous interiors…

Villa Olivia by Mykonos Luxury, Aleomandra

I know that this post was supposed to be about the best hotels in Mykonos… but I just couldn’t resist adding one more villa to this list. If you are visiting Mykonos with some friends, try this beautiful holiday home. Located at the southwestern tip of the island. Near Ornos Beach and Psarou Beach, in a slightly quieter part of Mykonos. The villa can accommodate up to 10 people and looks like taken straight from some Cycladic fairy tale. The beautiful infinity pool makes you feel like staying here forever… However, if you get bored with THIS view, then you have only 6 km to the famous Nammos 😉

Lidia Villa, Panormos

One more amazing villa from me <3 It is situated in a much quieter part of Mykonos (northern part of the island), but further from the beach (about 2 km). However, do we need a beach when we have such a view and a swimming pool at home? 🙂 The villa is great and comfortably equipped with all necessary equipment, there is even a jacuzzi. To be honest I would like to steal this look for my own home!

Little Venice Pieds-à-Terre Mykonos, Mykonos Town

As soon as I saw this place, I knew it must be on this list… It is a small hotel in the heart of Little Venice, where you live in a traditional waterfront cottage (you can also find hotels of this type on the island of Milos). It offers stunning views of the windmills and the Aegean Sea. Beautiful Cycladic interiors. Thanks to the location, you can feel like a native 🙂 A perfect place for a quiet holiday for two.
