Although we love pretty intense and insane road trips (you can see how our New Zealand or US West Coast itinerary was packed!), during our last trip to Greece we simply wanted to relax and unwind. I have been looking for some great place to stay for a long time. We’re not fans of large, impersonal hotels, so we wanted to stay in some unique accommodation. Finally, I came across the Naxos Rock Villas. Absolutely spectacular and one-of-a-kind place, which in itself is a great reason to visit the island of Naxos.
From the very first moment, I knew it’s gonna be a great holiday. Zina, the owner, came to the port to pick us up. Then, she spent almost 2 hours with us, telling many stories about Naxos and Greece, recommending some nice spots to eat and must-see attractions. We also got a cheat sheet with different routes how to get around Naxos to see the best out of the island. Zina was super-friendly and we immediately felt at home. One afternoon, she even brought us a delicious cake from the local bakery and when we were leaving, we got a jar of an orange jam 🙂 It was very sweet and made our stay even more special!

Naxos Rock Villas – location
Naxos Rock Villas is a complex of 3 villas located on the slope of Stelida hill. In the ancient times, a silica mine was located there. The villas were opened only in May this year, so everything is new and shining. The location is really fantastic and is one of the reasons why this place is so unique. The views of the sunrise over the Aegean Sea, admired from the bed through the bedroom windows or the ships entering the harbor, watched from the private pool, are unforgettable. The villas are located a bit off the beaten track and secluded with no hotels or houses around. It gave us a sense of total isolation. On the other hand, they are very close to the island’s greatest attractions. The beautiful beach of Agios Prokopios is less than a kilometer and the main town of Naxos is about 1.5 km away.
Our villa Apollo
We stayed in the Apollo villa, located on the left. The villa has one bedroom (with bathroom) on the first floor, with direct access to the terrace. On the ground floor, there is a kitchen, a living room with a fireplace (perfect on the windy Cycladic nights…) and a bathroom. The main attraction is, of course, a huge terrace with a private infinity pool, sun loungers, a beautiful wooden table and a BBQ place. I sincerely admit that when we opened the doors of the villa, we were simply astonished. Everything was just perfectly perfect! We were captivated by every detail of the house and how well everything was designed for the guests’ comfort.
Some examples? On the terrace on the first floor, there was a small table to enjoy morning coffee while watching the sunset. In the bedroom, there was an extra fridge so we didn’t have to go downstairs to grab some cold soda. On the ground and the first floors, there were built-in luggage compartments to hide your suitcases. Next to the BBQ, there was a special cupboard with the cutlery and plates, so there was no need to bring them from the kitchen.
The owners put a lot of heart and time to turn this place into a real home. It’s definitely not just another holiday accommodation, you’ll forget soon after your vacations. Staying here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our fridge was full of local products when we arrived (yes, even wine!) and a large supply of coffee capsules (yay!). The kitchen is fully equipped. But if you don’t feel like cooking during your vacay, you can hire your own… Chef! Tempting, however, we didn’t try this option 😉 Another good idea for lazy ones – on arrival, you will get leaflets with restaurants that will simply deliver food to your villa.
Inside the villa
The villa itself is simply beautiful, decorated in a Cycladic style. White and gray walls and furniture with blue details and natural wood. We were absolutely in love with these interiors. Interestingly, it was the owner herself who decorated the villas, because she wanted them to look as a regular “home”, not like a hotel. Of course, the villas have WiFi, and the built-in Bose audio system for listening to the music on the terrace, as well as inside the house. In the bedroom and living room, you will also find satellite TV.
We spent most of our time relaxing on the terrace on the ground floor and of course in the pool! I must say that these breath-taking, awe-inspiring views from the villa were definitely comparable to those in Santorini (from the famous hotels above the caldera) or even better. You know why? First of all – the villas are very secluded, no other buildings disturb the views. Also, you can feel like the only person on the island, which you won’t experience in Santorini, on caldera very cluttered with hotels.
The owners are happy to help you with arranging things, such as babysitting, booking a table in the restaurant, car hire or… helicopter transfer. Zina also recommended many amazing restaurants with awesome local food, which we, of course, had to try!
Naxos Rock Villas – our review
The only downside to this place was that we eventually had to leave… Everything was absolutely perfect! Sometimes I felt that the owners read the guests’ minds. All the facilities were so convenient and made our stay very comfortable. This is an absolutely unusual place where everyone feels special, like a real VIP! There is no snobbishness (so frequent in luxury hotels), but genuine Greek hospitality, which goes straight from the heart. We especially liked the location of the villa. We felt like the whole island belonged to us. What a difference after crowded Santorini or Mykonos, where hundreds of tourists are staring at you sunbathing on the terrace of the hotel…
Naxos Rock Villas are the perfect option for those seeking privacy, tranquility, and relaxation in luxury. It’s an ideal choice also for those, who simply don’t like large, chain hotels, where everyone is treated without this personal touch. It is a place perfect for some special occasion or a romantic getaway. We haven’t been so amazed by any other accommodation for a very long time (and probably won’t anytime soon!). We’re already dreaming about coming back!
We’d like to thank the owners of Naxos Rock Villas (especially Spyros and Zina) for an amazing opportunity to stay in this unique accommodation. That said, all opinions are our own as they always have been and always will be. We only recommend places we truly love!
